This site uses cookies and similar technologies to ensure our procedures work correctly and improve the user experience for online applications. This document contains detailed information on the use of cookies and similar technologies, how they are used on this website and how to manage them.

What are cookies?

Cookies are fragments of text (letters and/or numbers) which enable a web server to store information on the client (browser); the information can then be reused during the same visit to the site (session cookies) or even several days afterwards (persistent cookies). Depending on user preference, cookies are stored by the browser on the device in use (computer, tablet, smartphone). Similar technologies such as web beacons, transparent GIFs and all local forms of storage introduced with HTML5 can be used to collect information on user behaviour and service usage. Cookies and similar technologies are referred to with the term “cookie” from this point of the document onwards.

Types of cookie

Cookies can be grouped into different categories based on their type and use:

Essential cookies

This type of cookie is essential for the correct functioning of the website; they are used for login purposes and to access the functions found on the site.

Tracking cookies

These permanent cookies are used to identify (anonymously and not) user preferences and improve the browsing experience. This website does not use this type of cookie.

Analysis and performance cookies

These cookies are used to anonymously collect and analyse website traffic and usage. Although they do not identify the user, they may be used to check whether a user returns to the site at a later stage. They can also be used to monitor the system and improve performance and usability. These cookies can be switched off without affecting the website’s functions.

Third party cookies

When visiting a website you may receive cookies from the site itself (“first party”) and from sites managed by other organisations (“third parties”). A well-known example is the social plugins used by Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn. These parts of the first party page are created by the aforementioned sites and displayed on the host website. Social plugins are most commonly used to share content on social networks.
When a Plugin is used, cookies are sent to and from all websites managed by third parties. The use of information collected by “third parties” is governed by specific advisory notices (please consult the advisory notices for details). For user convenience and greater transparency, details are given below of websites for the relevant advisory notices and cookie management procedures.

Duration of cookies

Some cookies (session cookies) are only active until the browser is closed or the user logs out. Other cookies “survive” after the browser is closed and can be accessed by the user on later visits.
These cookies are called persistent cookies; the server establishes their duration when they are created. In some cases they have an expiry date, in others it is unlimited.
This website does not use persistent cookies.
However, when browsing this site you may interact with third party websites which may create or modify permanent and tracking cookies.

How to switch off cookies via your browser

Users may decide to accept or refuse cookies via their browser settings. Beware of totally or partially disabling technical cookies, as this may affect how the site works if you are a registered user. Public content can still be used when cookies are switched off completely. Switching off “third party” cookies does not affect browsabilty in any way. Settings can be specified for different websites and applications. The best browsers also enable you to use different settings for “first party” and “third party” cookies.
